Blaze Devastation Leaves 18 Families Homeless
Early in October 2007 a fire razed the shack homes of eighteen families in 28th Avenue ,Cleremont, Durban. The fire, which is believed to have been caused by a faulty paraffin stove, devastated the lives of these families, leaving most of the parents, grandparents and children homeless. Local Councilor Joe Zulu said: “The families have nothing left, some of them are staying with friends or family but some have nothing. We are really trying to help out these families and need as much help as possible. If there is anyone who thinks they can make a difference, please contact me on + 27 31 311 2555.”
As a result of the land being privately owned, Zulu said the council does not have the funding or legal ability to rebuild the homes.
The Rotary Club of Westville have received donations from Westville Senior Primary, Atholl Heights Primary School
and Westville North Library and are asking for assistance in any way to help out the families. Contact Rick Millard from Rotary Club of Westville on + 27 31 262 8906 or e-mail rick@millardeng.co.za if you would like to help these families
