Rotary/Daily News Team Speaking Competition
For the past five months some sixty eight schools, spread throughout Kwa Zulu Natal, ranging from Richards Bay in the north, Margate in the south and Dundee in the east have been hard at work, selecting subjects, ranging from ‘Are schools really safe for children’ to ‘Sky diving’, choosing teams, and preparing to compete in the Daily News/ Rotary Team Speaking Competition which is now enjoying its twenty seventh year.
The finals for this years competition will take place on the 22nd.of March at the Howard College Music Centre , University of Kwa Zulu Natal at 1830hrs.
The twenty three successful schools who have already competed at the Preliminary level will meet for the Semi Finals on the 13th. March and Adjudicators will choose 7 of those schools to go through to the Final at the University.
These 7 schools will compete for a floating Shield Trophy and a cheque for R20,000.00 presented by the Daily News. The cheque does not go to the winning team, it is presented to an under privileged school selected by the winning team, to be spent on improving facilities at that school, books are also awarded by the Daily News to the winning teams.
Competition so far has been fierce and Rotary Organisers are delighted at the standard of presentation and argument put forward by the schools which seems to improve year after year.
Space at the Final is limited. Anyone wishing to attend is requested to contact Rotarian Rusty Damp Phone 031 2662623 and book their seat.
