Conference...Message from the DG
Plans for the conference are well advanced under the
able leadership of Conference Chair, Roger Webber. The
planning has been great fun and the conference team hopes
to offer you yet another different conference experience
(there have been many good ones in the past few years).
Programme highlights have been circulated to all
Rotarians via Rotary Africa. These include
• Captivating guest speaker Gcina Mhlophe, Durban
based poet, playwright, story teller
• Guest non-speaker Steve Barnett (you can Google
him if you’re curious)
• RI President’s Personal Representative Phil Silvers
• TRF chair Bob Scott
• One of the Team Speaking competition finalists
• A 60 strong rural school choir – soul stirring stuff!
• A Carte Blanche interview on Foundation Matters,
presented by Nick (Derek Watts) Phillips and Colleen
(Ruda Landman) Pieterse.
• Friday evening fellowship, immediately following the
District Conference 2008: 23-24 May 2008 at the ICC, Durban
end of the afternoon’s proceedings, with dancing to
ACE. Theme: ‘African Footprint’
• Saturday banquet ‘Under the Stars’
Dawn and I would particularly like to invite all members
who have joined Rotary in the last 12 months to attend
conference. It is one of the most rewarding experiences of
the Rotary year and gives you an opportunity to meet for
fellowship, fun and inspiration. Lasting friendships develop,
not only with members of other clubs but also with members
of your own club.
Thanks to all Rotarians who have registered already. If you
haven’t registered yet for this special event in the calendar
of D9270, please do so now, before it’s too late.
Would all club secretaries send me a note of those club
members who have passed to higher service since the last
District Conference was held in May 2007. Thank you.
Dawn and I look forward to seeing you all, very soon!
