PR/Membership seminar...a resounding success

|
| PDG RRMC June Webber |
Our District’s annual PR/Membership seminar was a resounding success. The event was at Pinedene Inn on Saturday 1 September 2007 and well over 100 delegates participated in an interactive, informative and enlightening seminar.
DG Richard opened the seminar by welcoming all delegates and special guests and asked all to promote Rotary as much as possible by raising the bar and leaving a footprint. Presentations were then done by Derrick Couper of Rotary Africa fame. Derrick's emphases was on the correct use of the Rotary logo and the importance of branding. Rick Millard spoke on the resources available to Rotarians and produced a wonderful sign board that may be used by Clubs to receive the necessary recognition for projects and/or events.
PDG Gerald Sieberhagen explained RI’s new philosophy on PR grants and lots of discussion emanated on how best we could utilize the opportunity afforded to us by RI. It was agreed that a working committee would meet this week to finalise a proposal to RI.
Natty Moodley took delegates through the District website and Club webmasters were advised on how to upload information onto the site. The District website which includes all 46 clubs in the District is a first in the Rotary world and D9270 should be justifiably proud of its achievements.
The PR session ended with a most inspirational DVD by PRIP Cliff Dochterman on "Pride in Rotary". If you have not yet seen this DVD, then please do yourself a favour and get to see it TODAY. It re-motivated me and it will sure do the same for you.
The membership session commenced with an informative and stimulating presentation by PDG June Webber (photo on left) who is also the Rotary Regional Membership Co-ordinator for Zone 10A. June left us suitably inspired and encouraged the delegates to grow our District. Her topic included world trends in membership, Africa’s development and our District’s position in relation to the other Southern African Districts. Her presentation was well received by delegates with many requesting a copy for their own clubs.
Membership Chair, Neville Caine’s motivational address of “Whom have YOU invited to Rotary today” was done in his casual yet effective style. Neville laid on the challenge to clubs to increase their membership by at least 5 members. His ultimate challenge is for every Rotarian to introduce 1 member this year thereby doubling our District numbers.
Great weather, a sumptuous finger lunch and abundant fellowship capped the day. Here’s to September 2008….roll on.
